How can you increase a slow metabolism without using medication?

By admin

I have a very slow metabolism.I have a friend that eats 3 times as much as I do and never seems to gain a pound,I look at a picture of food and gain weight.
Before you say exercise more well I do and don’t seem to burn anything.

You may be more energy efficient than your friend is. I general, it is a good thing. Your body spends less energy than the body of your friend to do the same work. You can survive longer than your friend if there is not much food around. However, when food is easily available, your energy efficiency makes you gain weight.

To increase your metabolism, you should
- Gain muscle mass (Combine aerobic exercises with regular strength training)
- Eat 4 to 6 six small meals through the day (When you skip a mean, your body slows down your metabolism to conserve energy). Remember that portion control is very important.
- Eat whole grains, fish, fruit and vegetables, low-fat dairy products. Avoid sodas and other sugary drinks as well as alcohol.

That is it. There is nothing else you can do to increase your metabolism without medication, but I believe you will be fine if you exercise and adhere to a healthy diet.

You’re likely doing endurance workouts. Strength train. More muscle means faster metabolism. Move very heavy weights with few repetitions.

Eat less carbohydrate heavy foods. The body burns carbohydrates before it burns fat. With fewer carbohydrates in your body it will burn more fat.

Eating proper foods can boost metabolism. It has to be a committed change though. You say you are exercising. Are you challenging yourself? Are you pushing yourself to your max while you exercise? Are you waking up sore? Many people think they are doing enough exercising but in fact hit a plateau because they are not challenging their body. If you want results, you need to feel the burn and I mean it quite literally. I had lost all the weight from having my baby with exercise and healthy diet but hit a plateau. I told a few other people this already on this site but I started a new dvd, Jillian Michaels 30 day shred. I couldn’t freakin walk for three days the first time I did it (lol
) but I finally realized what really pushing myself meant and I am seeing results. If you are not losing and you really are pushing yourself to your absolute max and eating healthfully and healthy portion sizes, then it may be a medical issue. I was diagnosed as a gestational diabetic during my second pregnancy (this goes away afterwards but can cause harm to mom and baby if not controlled). Most times this is controled with diet and exercise alone…a huge hinderance to metabolism is blood glucose levels whether you are diabetic or not. The website I listed below is one I found when I was first diagnosed that was informative for me. Keeping your glucose levels on an even keel all day long is very important to metabolism. Most people think if they eat six times a day it will make them gain weight but it is really what and how much you are eating. It is the easiest way to get and keep your metabolism up. I hope this helps. Good Luck!
