I have a very slow metabolism.I have a friend that eats 3 times as much as I do and never seems to gain a pound,I look at a picture of food and gain weight.
Before you say exercise more well I do and don’t seem to burn anything.
You may be more energy efficient than your friend is. I general, it is a good thing. Your body spends less energy than the body of your friend to do the same work. You can survive longer than your friend if there is not much food around. However, when food is easily available, your energy efficiency makes you gain weight.
To increase your metabolism, you should
- Gain muscle mass (Combine aerobic exercises with regular strength training)
- Eat 4 to 6 six small meals through the day (When you skip a mean, your body slows down your metabolism to conserve energy). Remember that portion control is very important.
- Eat whole grains, fish, fruit and vegetables, low-fat dairy products. Avoid sodas and other sugary drinks as well as alcohol.
That is it. There is nothing else you can do to increase your metabolism without medication, but I believe you will be fine if you exercise and adhere to a healthy diet.

I naturally have a low metabolism, as does the rest of my family, and now that I have an office job, I don’t have the time I used to have to exercise. Unfortunately, it’s also starting to show. What is the safest, most effective way to boost my metabolism?
If losing weight seems to have become a lost cause for you because you find yourself bouncing from fad diet to the newest fat burning pill then it’s time you learn how to increase your metabolism with these seven easy to do lifestyle changes. If you can simply speed up your metabolism your body will consume more calories and before you know it those extra pounds will begin to disappear. And once those pounds are gone they will stay off because an increased metabolic rate will keep burning any extra fat before your body can store it away.
There are no secrets to these seven steps. They are easy to accomplish if you are motivated to lose that extra weight and take back control of your body.
1. Get More Sleep – There are two reasons for this. The first is that many studies have shown that people who get 8 hours or more of sleep per night have a higher metabolism then those who get less sleep. The second reason is that getting enough sleep has an affect on daily energy levels. If you do not get enough sleep you will probably snack more throughout the day trying to compensate for the lack of energy you feel.
2. Exercise in the Evening – Our metabolic rate slows down during the course of the day. During a normal day most of our calorie burning occurs during the morning. Taking a walk or some other form of exercise during the early evening speeds up our metabolism and helps burn away extra calories. You don\’t have to do an all out workout, just something to get the blood pumping and your heart rate up.
3. Get Moving – Our sedentary lifestyle is one of the biggest metabolism busters we have to deal with. Look for way to incorporate more activity and movement into your day. Take a walk at lunch, use the stairs instead of riding the elevator, and don\’t park in the space closest to the building where you work or at the mall. It\’s the little things that will add up at the end of the day that count.
4. Protein – Eating protein stabilizes your insulin levels which can have a big affect on how your metabolism runs.
5. Diet Choices – The healthier your food choices the higher your metabolism will run. Your body needs nutritious high fiber foods to run at it highest level. The reason for this is simple; the body must spend more energy extracting all the nutrients from these foods which it needs to function properly.
6. Eat More Often – This doesn’t mean stuff your self all day long. If you eat 5 or 6 smaller meals during the day you will not only find you eat less but you\’ll have more energy as well, keeping you away from those sugary snacks. Skipping meals is a big no-no because this can actually cause your metabolism to slow down.
7. Lift Something Heavy – Building lean muscle mass is one of the best things for increased metabolism that you can do. Not only will you burn calories while working out but lean muscle mass also consumes large amounts of caloric energy after the workout.
By learning how to increase your metabolism starting with these 7 easy steps you can rev up your body’s fat burning engine. The best part is these are all things you can do during the day and they require no special diets, pills, or even the latest exercise gizmo.

A site told me how much I should eat a day inorder to lose 20 lbs by July.
I need 2000 cal to stay at my current weight and it reccommended to eat 1300cal and no lower to reach the goal weight (125 lbs).
This seems fine, but how successful do you think this could be, based on the fact that metabolisms slow? Or is it only in extreme cases when the metabolism slows enough to have a LARGE effect on Weight loss.
Metabolism can slow somewhat with reduced calories but to counteract that, you can just eat more times a day. You can divide out that 1300 calories into 5-6 small meals and as long as you’re not cutting too many calories, it shouldn’t have a negative affect on your metabolism. Also, if you’re doing any weight resistance training, the muscle you gain from that will actually increase your resting metabolism. So, even when you’re not working out, you’re using up more calories. Glad to see you’re going about it sensibly. Most people on here ask how they can lose 20 lbs in one week!

I am 22 and my metabolism is really slowing down. I cant eat the way i use to. What are some good ways to help make my metabolism speed up a little?
Metabolism is essentially the speed at which our body’s motor is
running. The speed at which our body burns calories is called the metabolic
rate. It’s how fast your "motor" is running when you’re still in a
reclined position or sleeping. About 60-75% of energy is expended by the
body at rest in such activities.
The metabolism is based on the number of calories we burn throughout
the day. Our body constantly burns calories to keep us going whether we
are eating, sleeping, cleaning etc. People with a lower percentage of
body fat (i.e. muscular) have a higher metabolism than others that are
less muscular because muscle uses more calories to maintain itself than
fat. Some people have a slower metabolic rate and have a harder time
staying slim. Younger persons have higher (faster) metabolism because of
the increased activity of cells. A slow metabolism actually causes to
store fat. The slower the metabolic rate, the greater the weight gains.
How to build muscles to improve metabolism? What type of exercise is
ideal that speed up metabolism so that you burn calories even at rest or
sleep? There are simple exercises that speed up the metabolism.
Causes for Low Metabolism
* Fasting
* A low calorie diet
* Snacking throughout the day on high sugared foods (candy, colas,
cakes, gum).
* Eating or drinking too much sugar containing foods.
* Lack of physical activity.
* Underactive thyroid.
Metabolism Boosters
There are some natural metabolism boosters (natural foods) that
improves your metabolism. Do not take over the counter pills containing animal
thyroid extract that claim to boost up metabolism. These products may
have side effects as diarrhea, increased heart rate, excessive
sweating, nervousness, tremors, bulging eyes, etc.
How to Improve (Speed up) Metabolism
* Do not skip any meals
* Exercise daily
* Build your muscles
* Avoid alcohol, sugar, and fastings
*Drink 8-10 glasses of water daily.
*Eat foods with high nutrition values

what is the best appetite supressant? I need to lose at least 50 lbs.?
Posted by: admin | Comments (1)I do not excercise due to physically unable. I can walk, but very slowly.
Drink a lot of water. Sometimes when we think we are hungry but we are really thirsty. Water also helps increase metabolism.
Try getting some light free weights (1-5lbs) and workout your arms. The more muscle we have the more calories we burn even when our body is at rest.

How do I increase my metabolism and eat more without gaining weight?
Posted by: admin | Comments (6)Im 16 and i’ve been dieting for about 3 months now and i lost the weight that i wanted to. I’ve only been taking in about 1800 calories and ive been burning off about 900 through intense exercise each day. Im guessing that the dedicate in calories each day has slowed my metabolism and now I want to keep exercising the way i have been but start staying the same weight so how can I eat more and increase my metabolism without gaining weight.
If you’re still exercising then hopefully you should be able to gradually increase your calories without starting to put on the weight, ie increase your metabolism. But make sure the calories come from protein and veggies/salads and not from carby foods like sugar, sugary drinks, cookies, potato snacks etc or the ‘bad’ fats such as transfats.
For more detail on why it’s crucial to eat enough protein, and not to drastically reduce your calories long term if you want to keep your metabolism up, see my article at http://www.lowcarbiseasy.com/lose_weight_fast_crash_diet.htm.
